Lemongrass oil is an essential oil extracted from a Cymbopogon citratus also known as Andropogon citratus. Lemongrass oil is a fast-growing aromatic grass, grows about 1 meter (3 feet) in its high with long thin leaves and originally was growing in India. In India it is known as 'choomana poolu' and is also referred as 'Indian Melissa oil' or 'Indian Verbena' used in Ayurvedic medicine to helps in bringing down the fevers and treats for infectious illnesses. Lemongrass oil blends particularly well with basil, cedarwood, coriander, geranium, jasmine, lavender and tea tree.

Lemongrass oil is extracted from fresh or partly of dried leaves by a steam distillation. Lemongrass oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation of dried lemongrass. Lemongrass also known by its scientific names as Cymbopogon Citratus or Andropogon Citratus. The main constituents of its oil are Myrcene, Citronellal, Geranyl Acetate, Nerol, Geraniol, Neral, Limonene and Citral.
